Day Two – The Love Dare: One Wife’s Journey

The scripture verse that touched me in particular today is –

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

Heavenly Father, I know I need help with being kind…especially in the forgiveness department. Please open my heart to forgive…especially those against whom I’ve harbored grudges or judgment. Help me to speak the truth in love…painstakingly working to speak truth without hurting anyone. In Christ’s name. Amen.

Love is kind…
Since my husband isn’t awake or home at the same time I am, it was easy to do yesterday’s dare to say nothing negative to him. But today I will have to put forth effort into bringing him a cup of coffee when I go to wake him up. It’s not that I’m mad at him or anything like that. It’s just that it requires thought. So, while it’s on my mind, I’d better go make his lunch before I forget.

How much of kindness is actually possible if we just take a few moments to think about what another person might like? How much of it is contemplating how WE would like to be treated and turning the focus to someone else?

This is now...

To be kind, we must be tender-hearted and forgiving. How do those terms fit together? I’ll tell you. How do you tenderize a piece of meat the old-fashioned way? You pound it to a pulp! I believe that after your heart has been pounded to a pulp, you need to do some forgiving. Am I the only one who’s been here, before?

Is there anything for which I’m withholding forgiveness against my husband? I need to pray that the Lord will release my bad feelings and resentment and replace those feelings with love and compassion.

Papa, replacing ill feelings and deep-set resentment with love and compassion is difficult. Too difficult for me, but not for You. I’m asking you to gouge these harbored bad feelings out of my heart and fill that space with Your love. In Christ’s name. Amen.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...

Armor of God – Week Five – The Shield of Faith

I must admit that this listening sheet has notes written in every corner and margin.   I was starving for a lesson of faith, apparently.   This is some of what I learned from Video #5: ·          Faith is acting like God is telling the truth. ·          Active faith is a shield. ·          Faith is not foolishness.   It may look like it to the world, though. ·          Whatever God has called me to, He will carry me through. ·          God’s call will sound irrational because His thoughts are not ours. ·          When the dots don’t connect, but we do His bidding anyway, that’s faith! ·          God is sustaining universes not yet discovered! ·     ...
