Back in October 2008... The scripture verse that touched me in particular today is –
Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Hebrews 13:4
Love is honorable…
Love is honorable…
How am I supposed to honor my husband more than I do? I don’t talk about him to other people. I try to minister to him, daily. I need suggestions, Lord.
That was then, this is now...
Live with your wives in an understanding way…and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life. 1 Peter 3:7
The first thing that pops into my mind is the clichés of men finding it impossible to understand women. It is difficult to understand our mates at times. But showing honor is a choice we make whether we understand our partner or not. Because we are fellow heirs with Christ, we should honor each other. Does this mean we don’t need to honor non-believers? No way. How are we, as Christians, going to win them to the kingdom if we dishonor them? A good rule of thumb is to honor everyone.
But, how can we do this? Treat them respectfully. Listen to them. Consider their opinions. Pray with and for them. Spend time with them.
Lord, show me how to honor my husband. I realize that this relationship is a shadow of the relationship between Christ and the church, and I want to honor You as well. I also know that by honoring my husband, I honor You, and I want to do that with all of my heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
