Day Twenty-Six – The Love Dare: One Wife’s Journey


Back in October 2008...The scripture verse that touched me in particular today is –

A rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred blows into a fool. Proverbs 17:10

That’s one of my favorite verses of scripture. Thank You for nourishing me with this, Lord. I’m sorry that it’s the only verse of scripture I’ve read today. Well not exactly, but close. I didn’t behave very responsibly today, and that is what today’s devotion is about. Father, show me where I’ve failed in my responsibility to You and in my marriage.

Thank You for showing me that I didn’t spend enough time in Your Word. Help me to put forth more effort to be with You. And thanks for the reassurance that I will soon have at least one Bible study to do each day, keeping me in Your Word. Please forgive me.

Love is responsible…

That was then, this is now...

Each one must examine his own work…in regard to himself alone. Galatians 6:4

We are responsible for how we love. We must measure and assess how we love. We cannot compare how we love to how others love. We cannot withhold love because we give it better than we get it. We must encourage our mate to love better by loving him well.

Make his favorite dinner, do his laundry, mow the lawn… When I get up in the morning before my husband goes to bed, I leave the bed unmade for him. He doesn’t like to have to pull the quilt down and store the decorative pillows. And my man is so sweet! He knows I like to see the bedroom looking nice when I go to bed, so he makes it for me when he gets up in the afternoon.

Thank You, Father, for making us responsible for how we love each other. May we grow closer to You as we take care of each other this way. Help us to see the little things we do as not only ministering to each other, but also ministering to You. Give us fresh ideas on how to love You and each other better. In Christ’s name. Amen.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling.
