Bible Study: As It Was In The Beginning - Genesis - Chapter 2

Please forgive this rough draft format, as these are my raw study notes on the book of Genesis. I felt a great sense of urgency to publish them rather than waiting until I had the time to pretty them up. Thank you and I pray that God blesses you through this material.

Take a few minutes to savor Genesis Chapter 2. Then return here and ponder the thoughts, answer the questions, and be sure to leave comments about your own revelations…

2:5-7 – man was created to garden.

2:8-10 – compare this setting to that described in Revelation 22:1-2. Also see Hebrews 12:22 and Ezekiel 28:13-14.

2:9 – the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was in the center of the Garden of Eden near the tree of life. As the centerpiece, it was a focal point and seen often by Adam and Eve as they chose fruit from the tree of Life.

2:15-17 – God’s loving limits.

2:15 – Adam’s primary job in the Garden of Eden was to work (this is the same word used for “worship” or “serve” in this verse) and take care (this is the came word used for “guard” in Genesis 3:24 – if Adam wouldn’t guard the garden, the angels would! The serpent never should have gotten into the garden.) of the garden.

2:16 – serpent went to Eve because of her influence, and because God instructed the man.

2:18-19 – animals created to be helpers, but they were found to be inadequate.

2:19 – naming is Adam’s first act of dominion over animals. (NIVSB)

2:20-22 – woman created as a suitable helper.

2:24-25 – naked – arummim – meant smooth, hairless. It’s a play on the word “crafty” in v. 3:1.
2:24 – man leaves his parents for his woman (his flesh).

What attributes of God have you observed in your study today? How will this change your relationship with Him?

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
