Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord comforts His people. Isaiah 49:13
05/13/09 As I’ve mentioned previously, it is sometimes illuminating to examine scripture in another translation. I also pointed out before that the New American Standard Bible adds that the Lord will have compassion on the afflicted. I am drawn to the word “afflicted”. Perhaps because I feel afflicted when I realize I am too full of myself. Maybe you are afflicted, too. Here are some synonyms for the term that also happen to reflect the Hebrew definition: poor, humble, wretched, needy, weak, lowly. As human beings, we can all be described in these terms. Fortunately, the Lord has compassion on us. How? He sent Jesus to earth to die for our sins and restore relationship between us and our heavenly Father. In essence, His compassion washes away our affliction. Praise the Lord!
