The Book of Revelation by Chuck Missler – Hour 8 – Philadelphia


I am excited to study the letter to the church of Philadelphia because it is the only letter that promises the people will be kept out of the Great Tribulation.  I want to see positive parallels between this church and my own.  I want to see the commended qualities manifest in my life.

To be a loyal ambassador is my desire.  I don’t want to take the name of the Lord in vain and cast a shadow upon Him because of my poor ambassadorship.  I want to be missionary minded.  My “church” is very missionary minded.  Philadelphia’s prophetic profile in representative of the Missionary Church and the evidence shows that this church is here on the earth, today.  Does that give you chills?

I learned recently from another study that some scholars believe there is a correlation between the seven kingdom parables of Matthew 13 and the letters to the churches of Revelation.  The church of Philadelphia corresponds to the parable of the pearl of great price in Matthew 13:45-46.

Homework for next time:  Read chapters 2 & 3.  Outline the letter to Laodicea.  What are the distinctives of this letter?  What remedies were necessary?  Read Matthew 13.  Why did Jesus speak in parables?  What secrets were revealed?  What personal lessons were gained?

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God.
