Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man; a sin to avoid, promise to trust, example to follow, command to obey, truth to believe):

1.Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James and John, and told them the Son of Man will suffer at the hands of the teachers of the law. (17:1-13)

Principle:  Jesus reveals Himself and God’s plans to His people.

2.Jesus heals a boy with seizures that the disciples couldn’t because of their little faith. (17:14-21)

Principle:  Small faith – in Christ – can move mountains.

3.Jesus tells the disciples He will be delivered into the hands of men who will kill Him and He will be raised on the third day, then sends Peter to catch a fish to pay their temple tax. (17:22-27)

Principle:  Jesus meets the needs and exceeds the expectations of His people.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Jesus was transfigured, healed a boy, and paid temple tax.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):

TCMATK Jesus is unlike anyone you can/will ever know, in appearance, as a healer, as a “taxpayer”.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.How is Jesus’ latest revelation of Himself deepening and strengthening your commitment and service to Him?

2.Where is Jesus identifying areas of little faith and how are you letting Him grow those areas?

3.What choices will you make today to help others avoid potential offense?

The Big Idea (author’s main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is trying to convey this):

Miraculous, other worldly, not of this world

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
