Matthew 19:30-21:17 - Devotional Thoughts from my Homiletics

Today’s topic is service.  What is the best service you've ever had?  FastPass at DisneyLand?  A complimentary dessert at your favorite restaurant for your birthday?  Your car vacuumed during an oil change service?  What is the best service you've ever given?  A smile and a look in someone's eye when you greeted them?  A personal "thank you" written on the back of a restaurant check with a smiley face?  A lollipop for each of the kids while mom conducted a transaction at the bank?  Remember those days?  Service is not what it used to be, is it?  If we follow Jesus' example, we will give excellent service that never goes out of style. Aim: Jesus sets the example for His people to serve generously. 1.The last will be first and the first will be last (19:30-20:16) Principle:   God is generous. 2.Jesus tells He will be condemned to death and raised, to sit at His right and left in the kingdom is not for Him to grant, and wh...

Matthew 19 - Devotional Thoughts from my Homiletics

We’re talking about relationships today. Aim: God has a plan for every life and will bring that plan to fruition. 1.Jesus healed, spoke about divorce, and placed hands on children (Matthew 19:1-15) 2.Jesus said, “it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven,” and, “first will be last and…last will be first” (Matthew 19:16-30)   Remember last week we ended the chapter with Jesus telling a parable about an unforgiving servant.   He said “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”   I pray that has stuck with you throughout the week and that God used this challenging word to open paths of reconciliation between you and God and others. Matthew 19 opens with Jesus leaving Galilee and going to the region of Judea to the other side of the Jordan.   It’s difficult to gauge exactly how long this journey may have taken, but my searches say anywhere from 6-14 days of wa...

Matthew 18 - Devotional Thoughts from my Homiletics

Tonight’s passage is Matthew chapter 18.  It begins, “At that time…”  Let’s quickly recap chapter 17 so we remember what time we’re talking about.  At the beginning of chapter 17, Jesus took Peter, James and John up a high mountain and was transfigured before them.  Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus and spoke with Him about His upcoming departure.  Peter offered to build three shelters for them, and his offer was interrupted by God’s voice declaring Jesus to be “my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”  The disciples fell down, terrified.  Jesus touched them, comforted them and told them to get up and not be afraid.  When they got up, there was no one there but Jesus.  As they came down the mountain, Jesus told them not to tell what happened until after his resurrection.  Then they have a little discussion about Elijah and how he “comes and will restore all things” and how he “has already come, and they did not...

Life Flight by Lynette Eason

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Lynette Eason and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Life Flight" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me. “Life Flight” by Lynette Eason in the first book in her brand new Extreme Measures series.  Penny Carlton is an emergency helicopter pilot who takes risks every day in her work, transporting patients for medical treatment in sometimes challenging conditions.  FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield is chasing a serial killer…and Penny finds herself right in the middle of the manhunt. This is an action-packed, adventurous, romantic suspense read that will keep you reading well into the wee hours.  Eason knows how to build a plot that is engaging.  And she sprinkles thoughtful life lessons throughout her books.  This one is no exception.  This book is an exceptional suspense ...
