sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each

Aim (“To Cause My
Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):
TCMATK The best life is a life lived under Jesus’
sovereignty.
Application (not
yes or no question. Meant to bring about
heart change):
1.In what areas of your life could Jesus be more
sovereign?
2.What testimony do I have of The Light that I
might share to encourage someone else?
3. 2.What thinking needs to change for God’s
influence to be more evident in your life?
The Big Idea (author’s
main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is
about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is
trying to convey this):
Witness
So, at first, I did my homiletics on all of chapter
one. Then I noticed that the lesson
covered John 1:1-18, so I completely redid homiletics. I thought fewer verses would be easier, but
no. I really struggled with where to
divide the Content.
Verses 1-5, 6-8 and 9-18 seemed natural at first. But it looked totally out of balance! And I saw the mention of John’s testimony in
verse 15, and thought maybe 1-5, 6-15 and 16-18. That was still out of balance. Plus, trying to come up with a Subject
Sentence that included those three Divisions started out being 15 words! And as I got it cut to 11 words, it sounded
like caveman speak.
So, I combined my first two Divisions. I didn’t want to lose my Application question
for my second Division, so I just kept it.
Then, I wanted to keep the references to the light
together, so I moved verse 9 to the first Division and changed my Division
sentences.
Oy!
