Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man; a sin to avoid, promise to trust, example to follow, command to obey, truth to believe):

1.Jehoshaphat’s wealth, honor and power (2 Chr 17)

Principle:  All wealth, honor and power come from the Lord.

2.Jehoshaphat allied with Ahab for battle and returned to Jerusalem (2 Chr 18:1-19:11)

Principle:  All outcomes of battle are determined by the Lord.

3.Jehoshaphat sees God’s victory, his alliance with Ahaziah wrecks ships, and he dies (2 Chr 20:1-21:3)

Principle:  All our plans are subject to God’s will.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Jehoshaphat reigns, battles, prays to and praises God, and dies.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):

TCMATK A life lived in obedience to God brings joy and blessing.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.How are you using the resources God has given you to honor Him and further His kingdom?

2.In what ways are you standing out from the worldly people around you, and how are you leveraging your influence for God’s kingdom?

3.Where are your alliances compromising your walk with God and your promotion of His kingdom and values?

The Big Idea (author’s main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is trying to convey this):

Devotion.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
