Pastor Matt's Sermon notes:

What action have you taken to implement the things God showed you last week?

What happens when we hear the Word?

Why do we gather?

Path – hardened by many feet packing down the dirt.

Rocky – shallow, no root.

Thorns – congested, no fruit.

Fruitful soil.

Reflect: what kind of heart do you have?

If you want to know Jesus, you have to follow Jesus.  There’s no casual relationship with Jesus!  It’s all or nothing.  Those who know Him will know the kingdom.  Those who don’t know Him, who are only curious about Him, won’t understand spiritual truth.

We don’t get to judge God’s Word.  God’s Word judges us.

Believing means seeing.

If we do not turn our beliefs into practice, they will not soon be our beliefs. – Alexander McLaren

Those with no root will flee when testing comes.

Most Christians are unfruitful.  James 1:22.

v. 21 - You must be filled often to be a light-bearer – just like a lamp.  Oil is indicative of the Holy Spirit.

Just like the Israelites couldn’t store manna, we need a constant infusion of God’s Word!

Get alone with Jesus!  When you want to hear from the Lord, you cannot be distracted.

Jesus will explain what He wants you to know.

Whenever you take a teaching in, you know there will be a test.  If you’re given a test, God has equipped you to deal with it.  He expects you to pass.

Fear and faith cannot live in the same heart.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
