Philippians by Sue Edwards

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Sue Edwards and Kregel Academic for sending me a copy of the Bible study "Philippians" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
The New Testament Bible study for Paul’s epistle to the “Philippians” by Sue Edwards may be a thin book, but it is packed with plenty of thought- and prayer-provoking material for an eight-week study on joy and relationship!  The joy of the Lord is our strength and this Bible study will take the student deeply into Scripture to discover the truth about Christian community and what the body of Christ is supposed to look like.

Peppered with lots of additional activities and deeper thought-provoking questions, this study can be customized in intensity.  Scan the QR codes throughout the text for video teaching from Sue.  As with any Bible study, you reap what you sow, and this study gives you lots of opportunities to reap.  This is a wonderful study to add to Sue's growing list of teaching and a great resource for the believer who is hungry for more of Christ.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...

Armor of God – Week Five – The Shield of Faith

I must admit that this listening sheet has notes written in every corner and margin.   I was starving for a lesson of faith, apparently.   This is some of what I learned from Video #5: ·          Faith is acting like God is telling the truth. ·          Active faith is a shield. ·          Faith is not foolishness.   It may look like it to the world, though. ·          Whatever God has called me to, He will carry me through. ·          God’s call will sound irrational because His thoughts are not ours. ·          When the dots don’t connect, but we do His bidding anyway, that’s faith! ·          God is sustaining universes not yet discovered! ·     ...
