Where Treetops Glisten by Cara Putman, Sarah Sundin and Tricia Goyer

Discovering romance during the Christmas season is more magical due to the looming hardship of World War II. The three Turner siblings take a chance on love when the future is uncertain in these three connected novellas. Set in 1940s Lafayette, Indiana, Where Treetops Glisten tells the tale of Abigail, Pete, and Merry Turner--- each whom faces the uncertainty of life during wartime and relies on personal faith and God's leading to find lasting love and enduring hope for the days ahead.

White Christmas by Cara Putman follows a candy cane-making Purdue student with a vow to avoid romantic entanglements and the stoic farm boy dedicated to saving his family home who desperately needs the help the Turners can provide.

Sarah Sundin's I'll Be Home for Christmas tells the story of a fighter pilot running on empty, a lonely widow, and a little girl searching for what she has lost. Will an unusual Christmas gift fill their hearts again?

Finally, Tricia Goyer's novella Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas follows a combat nurse offering care and cheer to injured soldiers on the front lines as Christmas nears. When her patients and the Dutch villagers discover it is her birthday, they work together to give her a great gift---a reason to believe in love again.

Here's my review of this beautiful collection of Christmas novellas:

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Cara Putman, Sarah Sundin, Tricia Goyer  and their publisher for sending me a copy of "Where Treetops Glisten" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.

'Where Treetops Glisten' by Cara Putman, Sarah Sundin, Tricia Goyer begins with a Christmas nearly destroyed by the start of World War II.  The three stories that follow are heartwarming and entertaining – a great way to spend a weekend.

***“White Christmas” by Cara Putman tells the story of Abigail Turner, whose fiancé was killed at Pearl Harbor, making her apprehensive to get involved emotionally with anyone.  That is until Jackson Lucas enters the scene.  As he struggles with his own issues, Abigail approaches Jackson in Christian love only to find a deeper affection developing between the two.  A sweet story.

*****Sarah Sundin’s “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” grabbed my attention and imagination from page one of this wonderful story about another of the Turner siblings.  Pete Turner is now a lawyer, a lieutenant and a fighter pilot on leave at his parents’.  But he wasn’t always a success and he’s accumulated some skeletons in his closet that have dampened his spirit.  When he’s reunited with Grace, a woman he tormented as a child, he has a new idea about their future and looks for ways to make up for how he treated her in the past.

*****“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Tricia Goyer is the tale of Merry Turner, a combat nurse serving overseas.  Christmastime in the European theater is no one’s dream come true, but for Meredith, who is still hurting over a romantic breakup several years prior, is having a particularly difficult time dealing with the holidays, her birthday and the fact that she will be absent at the celebration of her brother, Pete’s nuptials.  But her heart skips a beat when she sees a man who looks like her lost love.

These stories will be a perfect read cuddled up next to the fire during the holidays.  I cannot wait to try the cookie recipes!  They’ll be perfect for holiday cookie exchanges.  What a wonderful bonus!

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...
