After a brush with death due to equipment failure, smokejumper Alexia Allen is ordered to take time off while the incident is under investigation. She makes a last-minute decision to recuperate at her mother's home and attend her high school reunion. Yet trouble seems to be following her, and within hours of arriving home she is confronted with murder, arson--and a handsome detective.
But the conflicts ahead are nothing compared to the ghosts of her past. As she struggles to accept and forgive her family's past, she must also decide if the secret she's been guarding for the last ten years must finally come to light.
Chock-full of the suspense and romantic tension you've come to expect from Lynette Eason, When the Smoke Clears is the explosive first book in the Deadly Reunions series.
Here is my review of this entertaining fiction read:
First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Lynette Eason and her publisher for sending me a copy of "When the Smoke Clears" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
“When the Smoke Clears” by Lynette Eason is a solid work of Christian romantic suspense. Alexia Allen, a smokejumper from Washington state is coming back home to South Carolina after an attempt on her life on the job. When she is suspended from work for disobeying orders, Alexia figures she will return to South Carolina to regroup. She is reunited with Hunter Graham, older brother to Alexia’s high school classmates, Chad and Christine. Hunter is all grown up, but the adoration he has felt for Alexia since high school hasn’t diminished any. Now Hunter finds himself investigating a local murder that took place at Alexia’s childhood home. As other crimes occur, it becomes probable that Alexia is the target and it may be her past coming back to haunt her.
Lynette Eason weaves a thrilling mystery in this first book of her new Deadly Reunions series. I couldn’t help but stay up late to finish this highly entertaining novel. I cannot wait for book two!
