July CSFF Tour: The Enclave by Karen Hancock

Here is my review of this entertaining book:

First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Karen Hancock and her publisher for sending me a copy of "The Enclave" to review for them. I have always been grateful for this generosity, and I am trying to improve at being consistent in taking the time to thank these wonderfully giving individuals in a public forum. I really appreciate your time, effort and expense in making a reviewer copy available to me.

“The Enclave” by Karen Hancock is a thrilling science fiction adventure that will appeal to both Christian and non-Christian audiences. The controversial debate of the ethics of cloning are woven hand-in-hand with the spiritual ramifications of the scientific process on the soul. My husband, the science fiction/fantasy fan, snapped this book up to read before I had the chance, so these comments are what he relayed to me:

Although much of the story surrounds the debate of the affect of cloning on the human soul, it takes about 1/3 of the book before you really get into any “spiritual” matters, and the Christian message really doesn’t pound the reader until the end of the book. This would be an entertaining read for the Christian or the non-Christian.

I was glad to see topics like faith in the workplace, creation v. evolution, and so forth, addressed in the story, and with such a light touch. Even as a Christian, I sometimes feel hammered by the message of a novel, and I reach the end of the story bloodied and relieved that it's over. Not so with this book! She handled it well.
