Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man; a sin to avoid, promise to trust, example to follow, command to obey, truth to believe):

1.The Sovereign Lord to Jacob: “Do not be afraid” (Isaiah 40-44)

Principle:  For the believing disciple of Christ, there is nothing to fear.

2.The Sovereign Lord to Jacob’s descendants: “I will rescue you.” (Isaiah 45-48)

Principle:  As a believing disciple of Christ, God has rescued you.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Apart from the Sovereign Lord Almighty, there is no Savior.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):

TCMATK Fearlessness and rescue are possible for every person, but this is the reality of the believing disciple of Christ.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.How will you turn worldly fears over to the Sovereign Lord right now?

2.In what way are you trusting the Sovereign Lord to rescue you or others?

The Big Idea (author’s main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is trying to convey this):

Salvation

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...
