Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man; a sin to avoid, promise to trust, example to follow, command to obey, truth to believe):

1.Jesus declares: it’s what comes out of the mouth that defiles, not what goes in (Matt 15:1-20)

Principle:  Jesus says our words reveal what is in our heart.

2.Jesus heals the daughter of a Canaanite woman with great faith (Matt 15:21-28)

Principle:  Jesus is willing to nourish all people.

3.Jesus heals many and feeds 4000 men besides women and children (Matt 15:20-29)

Principle:  Jesus is a compassionate healer and nourisher.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Jesus declares: “words defile;” heals a Canaanite and feeds 4000.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):

TCMATK Jesus offers healing and nourishment to those bold and humble enough to pursue Him.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.What needs to change in your heart for your words to be more nourishing and less poisonous?

2.Where will you step out in bold faith to feast on Christ rather than being bitter over your unworthiness?

3.What will you give up to pursue Jesus’ healing and nourishment?

The Big Idea (author’s main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is trying to convey this):

Jesus is the compassionate Bread of Life – our nourishment

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
