Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division – a truth about God, a truth about man, a truth about God’s relationship to man):

1.Jacob blesses his sons and dies (Gen 49)

Principle:  God blesses to point people to Himself.

2.Joseph buries Israel in Canaan and dies at 110 years old (Gen 50)

Principle:  God keeps His promises.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

Jacob blesses his sons, dies; Joseph buries him and dies.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, Learn, Understand, etc.):

TCMATK The end of the story for God’s people means being gathered back to Him.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.How will you bless those around you?  How are you blessing others in unconventional ways?  How might you bless your enemies and point them to Jesus?

2.Where are you sacrificing to keep a promise to someone?  How are you experiencing God keeping His promises to you?

The Big Idea (author’s main purpose in writing; the one thing all the other things in the passage is about; if you couldn’t talk about it, you would still understand the passage is trying to convey this):

God blesses through promises.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
