First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to
Mary Connealy and her publisher for sending me a copy of "The Accidental Guardian" to review
for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the
time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
The Accidental
Guardian by Mary Connealy is a gritty, yet
beautiful story about the survivors of a wagon train raid and the man who saves
them. Trace wants to catch the wagon
train raiders and bring them to justice.
He must take Deb, one of the survivors, along to identify the murderer
she saw.
This book is a suspenseful and
enjoyable work of western fiction. The
characters are thick and fleshy. The
relationship development seemed a bit fast, but that got me thinking that
relationships in those days developed out of necessity and probably did gel
quickly because of that. I love how
works of fiction can help me process reality.
My only disappointment is that Mary Connealy’s signature wit, although
still present, takes a back seat to the suspense and characterization.
“The Accidental Guardian” is a
terrific book to take to the beach or pool.
Reading about a race against the approaching winter to catch a criminal
is a great way to beat the summer heat!
