Beneath the Surface
by Lynn H. Blackburn
Dive Team Investigations #1
Leigh Weston thought she’d left a troubled past behind when she moved back home to Carrington, North Carolina. But when dive team investigator Ryan Parker finds a body in the lake near her home, she fears the past hasn’t stayed where it belongs.
Here's my review of this enjoyable work of romantic suspense:
First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Lynn H. Blackburn and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Beneath the Surface" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
“Beneath the Surface” by Lynn H. Blackburn is an enjoyable romantic suspense read. When a body is found in the lake that borders Leigh Weston’s property, a childhood crush, Officer Ryan Parker knocks on her door. The investigation draws Leigh and Ryan together and the threats against her life keep Ryan around to protect her.
I was more engaged by the romantic plotline than the suspense. Although I didn’t figure out the whodunit, I didn’t feel cheated – like the author withheld clues that could’ve helped me draw the proper conclusions. I’m not sure if this was because I was so wrapped up in the Leigh-Ryan relationship that I didn’t pick up on the clues or because the clues weren’t there. I was left wanting more at the end of the book. To a certain extent I think that’s a good thing, because it will lead me to read the next book in the series. On the other hand, I think it could’ve been tied up a little better. Overall, I would recommend this novel to romantic suspense fans.
