4:1-3
What we say Abraham discovered in this (justification by faith & upholding law); if A justified by works, he had something to boast – not before God; Scripture: “A believed G, credited to him as righteousness.”

4:4-5
To one who works, wages obligation; to one who trusts G, faith credited as righteousness.

4:6-8
David:  “blessed those whose transgressions forgiven, sins covered, the one whose sin the Lord will never count against them.”

4:9-10
Is blessedness only for circumcised, A’s faith credited as righteousness; after he circumcised or before?  Not after, before!

Not through law A & offspring rec’d promise he be heir of world but thru righteousness by faith; if those who depend on law=heirs, faith means nothing/promise worthless bec law brings wrath & where there’s no law, there’s no transgression.

TF promise come by faith so it be by grace & guaranteed to A’s offspring – not only to those of law, but those who have faith of A, he father of us all; It written: “I made you father of many nations”; he=our father in sight of G who gives life to dead & calls into being things that were not; A believed, became father of many nations: “so shall your offspring be”.

4:19-22
w/o weakening his faith, he faced that body as good as dead since he about 100 y.o. and Sarah’s womb also dead; yet he not waver regarding promise, was strengthened in faith & gave glory to G; fully persuaded G had power to do what promised; this why “credited as righteousness”.

4:23-25
“It was credited to him as righteousness” not written for him alone, but also us who believe in Him Who raised J from dead; He delivered to death for our sins, raised to life for our justification.

TCMATK Jesus died for our sins and was raised to life for our justification and when we have faith in Him, God credits it to us as righteousness, making us heirs.

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves.
