“Evening Prayers: For Every Day of the Year” is an incredible book of scripture verses and prayers conveniently divided into daily portions for reading and prayer. I am amazed that the human condition never seems to change. The author of these prayers passed away in 1919 – the same year my Granddaddy was born – and the same topics appeared in Scripture many years prior to that, and those topics are still pertinent for discussion, thought and prayer today.

I’ve been using this book in the evening to have my final thoughts be that of the Lord. Reading the Scripture verse and the prayer to prime my own supplications to God has gotten me into the habit of ending my day with prayer. This is a wonderful resource. Buy the book as gifts and don’t forget to grab a copy for yourself.

Homiletics . By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons. I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations. The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying. BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures. I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended. I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process! So keep practicing. Keep sharing and discussing.
