Learn the Bible in 24 Hours – Hour 18 – Romans

The epistle to the Romans is called Paul’s Definitive Doctrinal Summary.  Dr. Missler travels through the book of Romans quickly.  In this epistle, Paul puts everyone on the same playing field, removes all of our excuses...makes us all equally accountable.  The book of Romans has been called some of the most profound writing in existence.  It is written to believers, not to the unsaved.

This “Gospel According to Paul” highlights the fact that Christ didn’t come to make bad men good, but to make dead men alive!  We toured the sequence to maturity:  tribulation – perseverance – experience – hope.  We learned why the law was given – and this was fascinating teaching that could only come from a topsy-turvy economy like God’s.  We learned why Christian’s have trials.  We talked about predestination and free will, delving back into the difference in perspective between us and God.  He is outside the constraints of time but we are trapped within it, and this one component dramatically changes our perception.  There was so much loaded into this week, I can’t wait to watch it again!

My favorite moment in this week’s video teaching has been thought-altering.  It has actually motivated me to do God’s will.  Chuck Missler presented a scenario where someone he knew was asked by someone else if he was a Christian.  Missler’s friend responded, “You tell me.”  That’s the kind of Christian I want to be!  Lord, let my actions speak out loud and let them point to you.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
