REVIEW: Submerged by Dani Pettrey

Dani Pettrey’s freshman novel and the first in the “Alaskan Courage” series, “Submerged”, is a phenomenal work of fiction!  A thrilling and suspenseful mystery and a solid romance, this novel has it all!  Bailey Craig escaped her past and everyone connected with it when she left Yancey, Alaska.  When she must return for her Aunt Agnes’ funeral, she is forced to face the mistakes of her youth and the true love she left behind.  Cole McKenna thought he was over Bailey until she showed up back in Yancey.  Now he wonders if he can go back to life without her when she leaves.

These characters are supremely likable.  The plot is solidly crafted.  The dialogue is genuine, not contrived.  This was a completely enjoyable book!

I am so glad I was able to take a little break from my normally strained blog tour schedule to read this wonderful book that has been sitting in my “to be read” pile for months!  I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of her second book in the series, “Shattered”, to come out in the new year.  If there are any publicists out there looking for bloggers to tour the next book, I’d be happy to oblige!

The author also has a terrific packet of discussion questions, recipes, trivia and games that can be used in your book discussion group that you can download from her website:  www.danipettrey.com.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...

Armor of God – Week Five – The Shield of Faith

I must admit that this listening sheet has notes written in every corner and margin.   I was starving for a lesson of faith, apparently.   This is some of what I learned from Video #5: ·          Faith is acting like God is telling the truth. ·          Active faith is a shield. ·          Faith is not foolishness.   It may look like it to the world, though. ·          Whatever God has called me to, He will carry me through. ·          God’s call will sound irrational because His thoughts are not ours. ·          When the dots don’t connect, but we do His bidding anyway, that’s faith! ·          God is sustaining universes not yet discovered! ·     ...
