Brave by Angela Thomas – Session 1

I’m not sure what to expect from this Bible study called “Brave: Honest Questions Women Ask”. I’ve heard and read some wonderful things about it, though. In fact, it was what I read about the activities in the workbook on the Bible Café for Women blog that swayed my decision to sign up for this study over the others that my church offered this quarter. Then I was blessed beyond belief when my Pastor asked me to facilitate the study.

I immediately began praying for the women that God would bring to the study and for me to stay out of God’s way so that He could teach all of us.

Video: Session 1 has no viewer guide. But here is what I got out of the 12-minute video introducing the study: Things may not always go according to our plan, but God is never surprised by the circumstances in which we find ourselves. It is brave to take the adventure of walking with God.

Class Activity/Discussion: We spent the better part of our meeting time getting to know each other. We took a moment to introduce ourselves and explain which chapter of the study we were most looking forward to. We chose prayer and accountability partners, and exchanged contact information so that we could keep in touch with each other. After the video, we took a few minutes to discuss what we learned and were inspired to share our own vacation mishaps. It brought lots of laughter and realization that we have more in common with each other than we imagined.

The Book of Revelation by Chuck Missler – Hour 21 – Revelation 17-18

Two chapters on Mystery, Babylon.   She is the great whore.   She rides the beast.   She is the mother of harlots.   She is clothed in purple, scarlet and gold.   She reigns over kings of the earth.   She is caressed by the world.   She is sustained by the dragon (Satan). Chuck reminds us that the church of Thyatira is promised to go through the tribulation.   This is how.   If you recall the earlier lessons, the church of Thyatira was called the Medieval Church. Mystery, Babylon isn’t the beast, but she rides the beast.   There are ten clues in chapter 17 regarding her identity:   she’s a prostitute; she has universal influence all over the world; she is seated upon the beast; she is expensively adorned and outwardly attractive; she’s a utensil in God’s service but a counterfeit; she’s a mystery linked with the Babylon of Nimrod; she’s the mother of prostitutes who has spiritual offspring; she’s a persecutor of Christians...

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...
