"Beauty For Ashes" by Dorothy Love

Dorothy Love’s “Beauty For Ashes” is the incredibly moving story of a young widow displaced from her life by her brother’s recent marriage. Carrie Daly could be living the “ideal” life with book shop owner, Nate Chastain, but wanderer, gambler and horseman Griff Rutledge appears to have captured the attention of the lovely lady. When Griff remains in Hickory Ridge to ride a horse in a race that may help the town regain its economic footing, Carrie seems to want a closer relationship but fears what will happen when he leaves.

Griff is running away from his father’s disappointment, his family home and his past. His mind is set on a ship bound for Australia – and freedom – but he never planned on Hickory Ridge or the widow, Carrie Daly. This incredibly engaging Christian romance is a terrific weekend read. This clean entertainment will entertain, encourage and inspire.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling.
