I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me. “Dwelling Places: Words to Live in Every Season” by Lucinda Secrest McDowell is a beautiful devotional book that is divided by seasons:   Dwell (fall), Shine (advent - winter), Renew (lent - spring) and Grow (summer).   For the purposes of this review, I was asked to read the summer devotions. First, let me say this book only has 30-40 devotions for each season.   Even though there aren’t enough entries for every day of the year, the writing is thought-provoking and potentially life changing.   This is a lovely devotional that would be a very nice gift for yourself or someone else.

The third novel in the Mended Heart series, “Jilted” by Varina Denman is a thinking woman’s Christian romance novel.   This is an honest look at the life, struggles and personality of a woman who was abandoned many years ago.   Denman beautifully crafts her characters including the town of Trapp, Texas with depth and great care.   She deals with issue like depression with great sensitivity and knowledge gained from either painstaking research or experience.   This novel was so real, it took concerted effort to remember that it is a work of fiction.   And I love the thick thread of spirituality that is woven through the novel. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me. “Looking for Lovely” by Annie F. Downs is a beautiful book!   As I neared the end of the first section of the book, I felt myself getting discouraged at all the not so lovely the author was bringing to light.   Much of the not so lovely was (or still is) part of my life.   Part I ended right on time because my heart was hungry for some lovely.   Annie Downs exposed me to some things I never knew, made me look at my own world for the lovely around me and helped me to destroy some long-standing “uglies”.
