Bible Study: Revelation - What Was, What Is, What Is To Come - Chapter 13

Please forgive this rough draft format, as these are my raw study notes. I felt a great sense of urgency to publish them rather than waiting until I had the time to pretty them up. Thank you and I pray that God blesses you through this material. Stacey Take a few minutes to savor Revelation Chapter 13. Then return here and ponder the thoughts, answer the questions, and be sure to leave comments about your own revelations. 13 — The mockery chapter. 13:1 — beast coming out of the sea — the Jews think the sea is an evil place. The beast is a composite of the beasts in Daniel 7. The dragon gives this beast political power. 10 horns — 10 kings who haven't yet received a kingdom. (17:12) 7 heads — 7 hills on which the woman (Israel) sits. They are also 7 kings: 5 have fallen, 1 is, and the other has not yet come. The beast is the 8'h king. (7:9-11) 13:2 – the same animals are mentioned in Daniel 7. This is an indication that this empire will be a combination of the past empires symbo...

REVIEW: Beloved Captive by Kathleen Y'Barbo

Kathleen Y’Barbo has penned another entertaining seafaring adventure with her novel “Beloved Captive”. In this sequel to “Beloved Castaway”, the story of Isabelle’s sister, Emilie, is told. From her trip to visit her father in the hopes of procuring a donation to keep her school in Fairweather Key open, to her adventurous trip on the high seas including being captured by pirates and meeting her one true love, this lively tale in truly enjoyable. This novel can easily be read as a standalone story, but it would be more enjoyable if you’ve already read “Beloved Castaway” and are familiar with this cast of characters. “Beloved Captive” has moments where it is a bit far-fetched as well as other moments that are very predictable. But these elements do not detract from the story if you are able to simply take the book as an entertaining read. I found myself glad that I was correct about my assumptions of where certain twists and turns were headed. I will recommend this book and look fo...

I wonder…

…in the upcoming time of persecution, how will new Christians know who is friend and who is foe? The penalties during the time of tribulation will be torture or death or something unimaginably worse. It will be imperative to reveal your faith only to those who share it. And, I imagine that the enemy will be lurking behind every corner. People will not be able to rely on what they believed they knew of each other before the catastrophic turn of events that brings us closer to Judgment Day. Just like at the end of “The Sound Of Music” when the Von Trapps were hiding in the graveyard and Liesl’s beau, Rolfe, now a Nazi soldier, gave away their hiding place, Christians in the end times will need to be discerning and very careful. Will there be secret meetings and handshakes and symbols drawn in the sand like in the days when Christianity was just dawning? Will there be safe houses like in the days of the Underground Railroad? Will brand new Christians be able to watch others and obse...

Bible Study: Revelation - What Was, What Is, What Is To Come - Chapter 12

Please forgive this rough draft format, as these are my raw study notes. I felt a great sense of urgency to publish them rather than waiting until I had the time to pretty them up. Thank you and I pray that God blesses you through this material. Stacey Take a few minutes to savor Revelation Chapter 12. Then return here and ponder the thoughts, answer the questions, and be sure to leave comments about your own revelations. 12:1-17 — this is a flashback to facts of Israelite history! 12:1 – the woman with 12 stars (12 tribes) = Israel. 12:3 — red dragon with 7 heads and 10 horns — Satan. See Daniel 7:7. See Daniel 7:7 (AMP) 12:4 — his tail swept 1/3 of the stars out of the sky — compare with Daniel 8:10. See Daniel 8:10 (AMP) 12:5 — woman fled to the desert — the Int'l Bible Commentary says that this refers to the flight of the Palestinian Church in AD 66. the child = the messiah. See Psalms 2:8-9; 110:1-2 (AMP) 12:6 – The 1260 days = time, times and half a time (see v. 14). 12:7-12 ...

An Interview With "Scream" Author, Mike Dellosso

Here is my interview with the author, Mike Dellosso: WU: Why Christian Thriller/Suspense? How does Christianity fit into this genre? (Personally, I love this genre of writing) MD: I'll take the why question first. I write supernatural suspense because it's what I've always loved. Ever since I was a kid I was into weird stories--The Twighlight Zone, The X-Files, horror movies (not the cut-em-up kind or satanic stuff you see nowadays but the oldies like Alfred Hitchcock), there was this comic book called Weird War my brother and I were in to, and now I'm totally hooked on Fringe. Besides, I have to write suspense because I have a short attention span and that fits with fast-paced, intriguing stories. Now for the how of things. How does Christianity fit into suspense. I'll be honest, sometimes it's not easy. I want my stories to have a strong faith message but I don't want it to feel forced. I have tons of ideas for good scary, suspenseful stories but working a...
