04/10/09 I returned recently from my first women’s retreat. I was reluctant to go because it made for a busy weekend, which wasn’t really conducive to relaxing at Jesus’ feet. I was asked by one of the ladies running the event to call a woman who might need a ride, and I kept forgetting or was too tired, excuses, excuses – imagine the guilt I felt when that lady walked into the lodge by herself an hour late. I had an argument with my husband the morning I left, which put my heart in a bad place – angry, bitter, not willing to admit my fault in the matter. But Jesus met me in the mountains. He led me to befriend another first-time retreater and a lady who is routinely misunderstood. He helped me to see the graciousness of women I thought were in ministry just for show. He revealed Himself and blessed me from my head to my toes! He has never been so beautiful!

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling.
