Come near to God and He will come near to you. James 4:8

06/12/09 Why do we need to come near to Him before He comes near to us? Why do we have to make the first move? Technically, He has already made the first move... And the second move… He created us and has a plan for us. He came to the earth and dwelled as one of us for the purpose of dying for our sins. That was a pretty big move. And He pursues us…actively. He continues to do this throughout our lives unless we flat out reject Him. So that’s a third move… And, I don’t know about you, but He has never been very far away from me. All I’ve ever had to do was make a tiny baby step and He was right there with arms around me. In fact, more times than not, I lift my foot to take that step and I’m in His arms before that foot ever touches the ground before Him.

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God.
