Homiletics: Romans 11:33-36

Content (not sentence, direct verbiage from Scripture, fit on one line):

1.oh the depth of the riches of the wisdom and the knowledge of God!(33a)

2.how unsearchable His judgments(33b)

3.and His paths beyond tracing out(33c) – another translation says “ways”

4.Who has known the mind of the Lord?(34a)

5.Or who has been His counselor?(34b)

6.Who has ever given to God that He should repay them?(35)

7.For from Him, through Him and for Him are all things(36a)

8.To Him be the glory forever! Amen.(36b)

Divisions (run-on sentence OK, direct verbiage from Scripture/Principles are Aims for each Division):

1.God’s Mind (33-34)

Principle: God’s thoughts are not like our thoughts.

2.God’s Glory (35-36)

Principle: All things will bring glory to God.

Subject Sentence (10-word sentence with proper structure showing exactly where you are in Scripture):

God’s wisdom, judgments, mind and all things bring Him glory.

*Paul writes Romans about God’s wisdom riches and His glory.

Aim (“To Cause My Audience To…” Know, See, etc.):

TCMATK We cannot fathom God’s mind or judgments, but He is worthy of our praise always.

Application (not yes or no question.  Meant to bring about heart change):

1.How do my thoughts better resemble the mind of Christ since before I was saved and how does this impact how I minister to others?  One lesson I learned recently, because God is constantly growing me, is that “my” resources are really His resources, so if He wants to use the resources He gives me to help someone else, I should be ok with that.  Also, if He brings someone into my life, I am to minister to them in some way.  The major change I’ve seen in my life is less selfishness.

2.Is your motivation for serving God based on glorifying Him or something else and how does your behavior support this?  Because I don’t like to owe anyone anything, I have served God thinking I could pay Him back or earn my salvation.  The more I know about Him and His character, the more I realize there is nothing I can do to earn my salvation.  The price paid is way too high.  Now, I seek to make His name know to others, putting Him front and center when I teach, facilitate, testify or worship.  It took me a long time to get involved in choir because I used to love receiving applause and compliments.  But I knew God was calling me into it and He has blessed me with more Christian friends, new ministry opportunities and feedback that people are blessed because of my participation
