Today's Daily Devotional


Serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14

06/22/09 There is a verse in Ephesians 4 that says the law is a tutor that leads us to Christ. The law was designed to show us how impossible it is for us to obey thoroughly, thereby showcasing our need for a Savior. Only Jesus obeyed the law completely. Even if you sum up the entire law in this one command, only Jesus obeyed the law completely. I am currently studying this very thing on my own with the help of a book called “When The Good News Gets Even Better”. It is a wonderful study of the gospels from a first century Jewish perspective. The passage we’re studying in regard to this subject is the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7. The entire law is summed up beautifully in those passages. Take a few minutes to really savor those three chapters and let Christ’s love wash over you.

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves.
