“Everything is possible for him who believes.” Mark 9:23
05/14/09 Jesus spoke these words to a man whose son was possessed by an evil spirit that repeatedly tried to kill the boy. How would you feel if you were the father to whom Christ was speaking? Would you take it to be an attack of your faith? Or confirm the doubt and defeat that you already felt? Would the statement give you hope that your child could be healed? I think this father ran the gauntlet of all of these emotions and more. His response is an oxymoron: I do believe. Help my unbelief. AND DON’T WE ALL FEEL LIKE THAT SOMETIMES!?!?!?!?! It’s almost like we’re begging Jesus, “Please, Lord! I WANT to believe so badly! Make me believe!” He loves when we’re honest with Him like that. He already knows the depth of our belief –or unbelief. So, ask Him for help.
