“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
03/05/09 Doesn’t the Statue of Liberty say something like this? That’s what I think of when I read this verse: groups of people crowding into Ellis Island to escape the oppression of their homelands for a bright and exciting future in America. That’s how my ancestors did it. And I’m talking about both my blood relatives and my spiritual mentors. Every one of us who have come to know Christ recognized that sin was an oppressive force to run away from. Living as a Christian is not always easy, and like our adopted Israelite forefathers, we are tempted to return to Egypt because at least we know what to expect from that sort of oppression. But we must press on and not give up. Eventually, we will reach the finish line and receive the rest that Christ promised us!
