Can We Talk – Homework Week #3, Day #3

Secret Idols. Ouch. My study of Ezekiel 8:9-12 prompted a conversation with the Lord on the way to work about recognizing things that I allow to take His place in my life. It branched into a discussion of sinful things that “lurk” in the dark places of my heart, hiding from the light, deliberately looking for an opportunity to catch me by surprise and POUNCE! It reminded me of the scripture that teaches us that the enemy is prowling around for us like a lion, waiting for the moment to attack us.

I prayed that I would not become the enemy’s prey. I asked that God would make me alert so that I would not fall into any traps or be caught by surprise. It made me realize that, if I stay close to Jesus, His light will illuminate everything in my path and the enemy will have no place to hide. So I am coming to You, Lord, to ask that You would fill me with tenacity to spend time with You and maintain that connection. Give me a hunger and a thirst for more of You. In Christ’s wonderful name. Amen.

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling.
