Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23
06/16/09 What is the heart, anyway? It’s the seat of emotions. It’s the core of our being. It’s where Jesus lives in each one of us. It’s what colors our thoughts and flavors our speech. Whatever comes out of our mouths (and much that doesn’t) resides here first. It is a place of vulnerability. It is easily broken and embittered. It can be soft and pliable and open to loving others and being loved or it can be hardened and resentful and unwilling to forgive. When we come to Christ and give our lives to Him, He gives us a new one. Jesus spends the rest of our lives molding that heart He gave us so that it looks more like Him each day. The heart is the deciding factor in how we behave. We must protect it so that only goodness goes in and comes out.
