One in a Million by Priscilla Shirer – Session 1

“It’s time for the pew to meet the pavement,” according to our teacher for this series, Priscilla Shirer.  In the first session of video teaching, she promises indulgent and delicious living for those who chase after Jesus and obey Him.

We are about to embark on a journey that will bring deliverance from our shackles.  Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ, freeing you from Satan’s control?  Have you been freed from the places where sin reigns?  Or are you still going there and doing that?

Christ has set us free!  And we are free indeed!  Glory to God!!!  We are told in Galatians 5:1 that our job is to keep standing firm, not allowing ourselves to be enslaved again.  Are you living this way?  Me neither, but I want that to change.  Do you?  Let’s get up now and leave our Egypt.

This first week of study brought tears and relief and new outlooks.  Hallelujah!  We need to be honest with ourselves.  God already knows the truth about us.  We need to face that truth.  Denial is a lie to ourselves and will keep us in a state of bondage.

We must retrain ourselves to walk in freedom.  How?  Great question!  Here are some ideas:  love God lavishly, forgive others and yourself, spend time ministering to others, love others with reckless abandon, pray often, test everything against God’s Word, start your day with Jesus – first thing, question what the world calls the truth, memorize Scripture.  We can’t give up on really experiencing God!

It’s important that we know our triggers:  what the devil uses to make sin appealing to us.  But I caution you to not spend a whole lot of time studying the enemy of our souls.  Our time is much better spent getting to know Christ and His ways.  Then, when the enemy presents us with a lie disguised as the truth, we’ll know because we’ll know Jesus well enough to recognize an imitation.  We need to feast on Christ!  He is our manna.  Partake regularly.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
