Betting on Hope by Debra Clopton

Betting on Hope

by Debra Clopton
Contemporary Romance
Thomas Nelson

One sophisticated advice columnist. One rough-around-the-edges cowboy. And an entire small town rooting for love. The first book in Debra Clopton's Four of Hearts Ranch Romance series, Betting on Hope, will win your heart!
Advice columnist Maggie Hope never dreamed she'd be shaking hands with champion horse trainer Tru Monahan over a high-stakes bet, especially one that involves horses. And saddles. And everything else a city girl like Maggie feels uncomfortable around. But after filling in for a coworker and interviewing the handsome cowboy, she finds herself doing just that. Anything to save her advice column.
Despite Maggie's two left feet, Tru is bound and determined to bring out her inner cowgirl by teaching her to ride a cutting horse --- in Maggie's eyes, a wild beast trained to separate cattle from the rest of the herd. While her riding improves, the two grow closer, but Tru knows he can never let her into his heart --- for her own good.
In Wishing Springs, a community full of meddling --- yet well-meaning --- townsfolk, Maggie discovers a home far from what she's ever had and exactly what she's always longed for. But she's holding something back---a secret with the power to destroy her reputation and any future she's ever hoped for with the cowboy she's come to love.

Here is my review of this wonderful novel:

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Debra Clopton and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Betting on Hope" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.

Betting on Hope” by Debra Clopton is a beautifully written story of many kinds of love.  Tru Monahan adores his Grandfather who is no longer quite himself due to the onset of dementia.  But this cowboy willingly works himself to regain what his gambler father nearly threw away – the ranch his Grandfather worked his whole life to build.

Maggie Hope is on an assignment outside of her comfort zone.  Writing an advice column for a publication is a far cry from doing a filmed interview with gorgeous, womanizing cowboy, Tru Monahan!  And when Maggie’s klutzy nature kicks in leading to a bet between her and Tru that he could teach her how to ride a cutting horse at a competitive level, pride enters the picture and tethers these two together for several weeks before the competition.

This beautiful book is loaded with charming characters, concrete subplots, a delightful sleepy little town, solid friendships, valuable life lessons and lots of surprises.  It’s an enjoyable way to spend several hours.  I will absolutely be on the lookout for future offerings in Debra Clopton’s  Four of Hearts Ranch Series.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
