Day One – The Love Dare: One Wife’s Journey

Back in October, the scripture verse that touched me in particular on day 1 was –

See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 1 Thessalonians 5:15

Father, there’s a lot of arguing in our home between our daughters. In light of today’s lesson on patience, I commit our girls to You and pray that their arguing will cease. Regardless, I will patiently trust in You to work in them in Your time. I only ask that You use me to help them see their actions for what they are if that is Your will.

Love is patient…
This journey isn’t just about marriage, but also about my relationship with God. In fact, this "Love Dare" is all about my relationship with God! His timing is perfect. At the time of my first reading of this devotional in October 2008, I need to be patient as I wait on Him for a job. This is very difficult to do as I am only 18 days away from being out of work for 12 months!

That was then, this is now...

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love... Ephesians 4:2

Notice the qualities that are put together in this scripture verse: humility, gentleness, patience, love. It seems almost like a path. Humility leads to gentleness, which leads to patience, which leads to love. Day one of “The Love Dare” says that love is patient. This is certainly true, but the patience comes from gentleness and humility…and from the heart of God, of course.

To apply this verse, I think it’s a wonderful idea to challenge myself with saying nothing negative. Better still, every time I think a negative thought about my husband, I will begin the practice of praying for him and asking God to remind me of what I love about this man I married.

Father, I pray that You would open my eyes to see my husband as You see him: with love and compassion and patience. Grow me into a godly wife who glorifies You. In Christ’s name. Amen.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
