Here's my review of this enjoyable anthology:

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Tamera Alexander, Shelley Gray, Dorothy Love and Elizabeth Musser and their publisher for sending me a copy of "Among the Fair Magnolias" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
Among the Fair Magnolias” by Tamera Alexander, Shelley Gray, Dorothy Love and Elizabeth Musser is an enjoyable anthology of four heartwarming novellas.  There are five must-try Southern recipes and a list of discussion questions to get your reading group off to a good start.

***Dorothy Love begins this enjoyable collection of stories with “A Heart So True”.  This is a love story triangle where Abby’s father wants her to marry her cousin, Charles, to strategically keep the family lands within the family.  But Abby’s heart belongs to Wade, a doctor she wants to marry.  Love’s tale is thick with Southern charm and actually offers some cultural understanding.

****“To Mend a Dream” by Tamera Alexander follows.  Savannah anxiously jumps at the chance to revisit her past when she accepts a position to redecorate her former childhood home for the new owner and his fiancĂ©e.  Secretly she is looking for a mysterious box hidden by her father on the property.  What a sweetly suspenseful read of another love triangle.

***In yet another love triangle, Elizabeth Musser entertains and enchants with her contribution to the anthology:  “Love Beyond Limits”.  Emily loves two men.  Her childhood friend, Thomas, doesn’t share her strong political beliefs, but he is the man pursuing her.  She is secretly in love with Leroy, a freedman on her family’s plantation, but Emily knows that a future with him would be impossible.  This story is steeped in history and very thought-provoking.

****Shelley Gray’s offering, “An Outlaw’s Heart”, is a hopeful story of second chances.  Russell Champion returns home after a seven-year absence that began with the betrayal of his own mother and the woman he loved.  This is a thoroughly satisfying read that makes the reader believe that it’s never too late to make things right and sometimes we have to seek out those who’ve wronged us.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...
