Bible Study: Revelation - What Was, What Is, What Is To Come - Chapter 12

Please forgive this rough draft format, as these are my raw study notes. I felt a great sense of urgency to publish them rather than waiting until I had the time to pretty them up. Thank you and I pray that God blesses you through this material.

Take a few minutes to savor Revelation Chapter 12. Then return here and ponder the thoughts, answer the questions, and be sure to leave comments about your own revelations.

12:1-17 — this is a flashback to facts of Israelite history!

12:1 – the woman with 12 stars (12 tribes) = Israel.

12:3 — red dragon with 7 heads and 10 horns — Satan. See Daniel 7:7. See Daniel 7:7 (AMP)

12:4 — his tail swept 1/3 of the stars out of the sky — compare with Daniel 8:10. See Daniel 8:10 (AMP)

12:5 — woman fled to the desert — the Int'l Bible Commentary says that this refers to the flight of the Palestinian Church in AD 66.

the child = the messiah.

See Psalms 2:8-9; 110:1-2 (AMP)

12:6 – The 1260 days = time, times and half a time (see v. 14).

12:7-12 - The war described in vv. 7-12 is yet to come.

12:9—See Genesis 3:1, 14, 15; Zechariah 3:1 (AMP)

12:10-13 – see Revelation 11:15-17.

12:10—See Job 1:9-11 (AMP)

12:12 — See Isaiah 44:23; 49:13 (AMP)

12:14-16 – see Daniel 11:40-41 – Notice especially, “he…will sweep through them like a flood.” Revelation 12:15 says, “Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent.” The woman symbolizes Israel, and this is almost an exact quote.

12:14 — wings of a great eagle — see Exodus 19:4; Deuteronomy 32:10-12.

See Daniel 7:25; 12:7 (AMP)

  • Remember that the main message of the book of Revelation is the infinite love, power and justice of the Lord Jesus Christ. How is this evident in today’s text?
  • What attributes of God do you see in this chapter?
  • What scripture seemed to be God speaking directly to you? What is He teaching you in these verses? How does He want you to respond?
