Counting on a Cowboy by Debra Clopton

Counting on a Cowboy
by Debra Clopton
Contemporary Romance
A Four of Heart Ranch Romance book 2
Thomas Nelson

After losing everything dear to her, Abby never wants to love again. But a certain cowboy spurs her to wonder if maybe love is worth the risk.
Running from a past that haunts her, Abby Knightly is drawn to the homey town of Wishing Springs, Texas, after her favorite advice columnist found love and a home there. Maybe this small town could offer hope and healing and a future for Abby too . . . if she's brave enough to reach out and take it.
Bo Monahan isn't interested in the new romantic destination his little town has become---or the women who might be looking at him like he's their next Mr. Right. Between taking care of his Pops and his growing stirrup business, he isn't looking for serious romantic commitments. But unexpectedly the young child he never knew about appears on his doorstep and Bo's world is turned upside down.
This confirmed bachelor might not need a wife, but he sure needs a woman . . . and newcomer Abby Knightly is definitely a woman. When she comes to his rescue to help him navigate fatherhood, he slowly uncovers her own history. And suddenly Bo's thinking maybe, just maybe, together they can help each other work through the problems of the past to create a future of their own.

Here's my review of this enjoyable novel:

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Debra Clopton and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Counting on a Cowboy" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
“Counting on a Cowboy” is another wonderful novel by Debra Clopton.  Bo Monahan is tired of women coming to Wishing Springs to find a husband since his journalist sister-in-law put the town on the map.  He’s not looking for a relationship and is skeptical when women start hanging around.  Abby Knightly is looking for a fresh start – NOT a husband.  And after her thoughts and feelings were substantiated by an advice column, she takes a leap of faith to move to Wishing Springs.

This novel is full of laughter, tears, sweet friendships and frustrating moments.  Clopton’s characters are thick like flesh and blood people.  Her dialogue is believable.  Her circumstances are engaging and plausible, not feeling manipulated or forced.  The inner monologues of the characters are insightful.  I have always been able to enthusiastically recommend Debra Clopton’s novels.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...

Armor of God – Week Five – The Shield of Faith

I must admit that this listening sheet has notes written in every corner and margin.   I was starving for a lesson of faith, apparently.   This is some of what I learned from Video #5: ·          Faith is acting like God is telling the truth. ·          Active faith is a shield. ·          Faith is not foolishness.   It may look like it to the world, though. ·          Whatever God has called me to, He will carry me through. ·          God’s call will sound irrational because His thoughts are not ours. ·          When the dots don’t connect, but we do His bidding anyway, that’s faith! ·          God is sustaining universes not yet discovered! ·     ...
