Divisions:

1
25:21-28
Isaac and Rebekah have twins and each loves a different son.
Principle:
It is a blessing to have a spouse who prays for you.
Inquiring of the Lord is what you should do when you’re confused or fearful.
Children are a blessing from God.
Twins can be as different as night and day.
Favoritism is damaging.
2
25:29-34
Esau sells his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of stew.
Principle:
Don’t allow yourself to be ruled by your stomach.
Taking advantage of others is wrong.
Don’t manipulate others.
Don’t be over dramatic.
Don’t despise your birthright.

Subject Sentence:

Isaac prays, Rebekah conceives, Jacob cooks, Esau eats, sells, despises.

Aim (Christian and Non-Christian):

TCMAT see prayer as an important part of a Christian’s life and to know what aspects of life are important and not to be taken for granted.

Application:

1
What experience have you had with others praying for you?
When you are confused or afraid, what is your first reaction?
For what do you inquire of the Lord?
What has the Lord told you when you’ve inquired of Him?
What are some remarkable things about your children?
What are your children (blood or spiritual) like?
What has been your experience with favoritism?
Why do you think Rebekah loved Jacob?
2
What sort of men did Jacob and Esau grow up to be?
Have you ever been so hungry that you were willing to pay an overly high price for the first food you saw?
When have you experienced taking advantage/being taken advantage of in a situation like Jacob’s and Esau’s?
When has something important lost some of its importance because of a (perceived) crisis?
What have you experienced that involved someone being coerced into swearing to something that wasn’t to their benefit?
What does it mean that Esau despised his birthright?  And why is this a bad thing?

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a...

Armor of God – Week One – Sizing Up The Enemy

Welcome to Boot Camp!   For the next seven weeks we will be training with our weapons (God’s Word and prayer) in preparation for the battle of our lives and the lives of others!   And we will be learning how to equip ourselves with the Armor of God. Priscilla Shirer’s Armor of God Bible study is a MUST-DO for EVERY BIBLE STUDENT!   I don’t mean to shout, but I can’t emphasize this enough!!!   We are at war boys and girls.   And our enemy wants to keep us in the dark about that fact.   If he can convince us that he does not exist or that our God is not good or that we are not loved and treasured by the King and Creator of the Universe, he wins the battle.   But can I share something with you?   OUR ENEMY HAS ALREADY LOST THE WAR!!!!!   His time is short and he is grasping at anything we leave dangling in an attempt to drag us down.   So let’s not leave too much dangling. My church begins the Armor of God study tonight (9/9/15). ...
