Bible Study: Taking A Stand - Daniel - Chapter 9

Happened around 539 BC – the same time frame as the writing on the wall. (Daniel – God’s Blueprint for Bible Prophecy - Kay Arthur) 539-538 BC. (NIV SB) 605 BC – 539 BC = 66 years – 4 years to go… Daniel prays. He knew the prophecies of Jeremiah 25:8-13; 29:1-14. Daniel is about 80 at this time. It’s rather interesting that Daniel recognized Jeremiah as a prophet since they were contemporaries. See 2 Peter 3:16 – Peter also recognized Paul. The timeframes discussed in this chapter are for Israel, and based on the 360-day lunar year Jewish calendar! (Daniel – Beth Moore) 9:1 – This Darius is the same one mentioned in chapter 6. The Ahasuerus mentioned is NOT Esther’s husband. The events in Esther happened about 50 years later. (Life App SB) With regard to Darius’ identity: “The wording could suggest an appointment. Many scholars believe Darius is another name for Ugbaru, the leader of the invasion into Belshazzar’s Babylon. Other scholars think Darius may be another name

The Love Dare: One Wife’s Journey

I am about embark on a blogging adventure of journaling for 40 days on my journey through the popular devotional, “The Love Dare” by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. For any of you who have seen the movie “Fireproof” starring Kirk Cameron, you have heard of this book as it was an integral part of the plot of this story about a firefighter, his wife and the restoration of their failing marriage relationship. But even if you haven’t seen the film, this is a wonderful devotional for a husband or a wife. Even if your marriage relationship is a happy one where you and your spouse are already Christians (like my 22-year old relationship with my husband), this is still a wonderful devotional. I expect that everyone’s journey through “The Love Dare” will be unique since each of us is one-of-a-kind. We are at different points in our walk with the Lord, so He will use the same passage of scripture and the same devotional writing to teach each of us something slightly different. In fact, the journey th

Everyday Art

Every morning on my way to work, I pass this fire station. The people inside are full of courage. They are strong and brave and ready to thrust their bodies into harm’s way to rescue another. Firefighters seem larger than life, but they are mere mortals. I used to bump into them all the time at the grocery store. I would take a few minutes to thank them for their service as I glanced at what they were buying for their evening meal. Firefighters eat well! When I see their trucks parked outside of the store, I will pull a blank note card out of the stash I keep in my car and write a quick thank you and leave it by the driver’s door. When I hear sirens, I say a quick prayer for the safety of the emergency personnel represented by the siren and the people they are rushing to help. But seeing this fire station everyday has also shown me the heart of these individuals. They are creative and artistic. On the side of the fire house is a huge mural painted on the building. It’s vibrant

REVIEW: The Cross by Arthur Blessitt

First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Arthur Blessitt and his publisher for sending me a copy of "The Cross" to review for them. I have always been grateful for this generosity, and I am trying to improve at being consistent in taking the time to thank these wonderfully giving individuals in a public forum. I really appreciate your time, effort and expense in making a reviewer copy available to me. “The Cross” by Arthur Blessitt is a terrific book! What a wonderful testimony to pen an inspiring, but rocky 38-year journey to LITERALLY bring the cross to every nation on the earth. This non-fiction triumph is loaded with beautiful photographs chronicling the epic event. Wonderful stories share the journey of the man and his family, Christ and the cross and the conversations to which this spectacular undertaking led. I was particularly touched by the power of perspective. For example, one man’s “normal” is another’s horrifying awakening to a train rumbli

Worth a Thousand Words by Stacy Hawkins Adams

Here is my review of this beautiful book: First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Stacy Hawkins Adams and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Worth A Thousand Words" to review for them. I have always been grateful for this generosity, and I am trying to improve at being consistent in taking the time to thank these wonderfully giving individuals in a public forum. I really appreciate your time, effort and expense in making a reviewer copy available to me. One factor in deciding to participate in the blog tour for “Worth A Thousand Words” was reading a review from Marina Woods, the president of GoodGirlBookClubOnline.com that promised this novel would "…reawaken the power within you to be free to become all that God has created you to be…” This review also promised that I would be “…delighted, inspired, and transformed." Unfortunately, I could not get into this book. “Worth A Thousand Words” by Stacy Hawkins Adams is not poorly written. It

Bible Study: Taking A Stand - Daniel - Chapter 8

The book from this chapter on is not written in Aramaic, the common language. It is now written in Hebrew so it is now distinctly a message to the Jews! 551 BC – Daniel is about 68 years old. Acts 1:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:1 – It is not for us to know when the day of the Lord will come. The fulfillment of these prophecies offer proof of God’s existence and that He speaks to and through His people. Their fulfillment also offers hope to us as we wait for His return – patiently – so that no one may be lost. 8:1 – precedes chapter 5. Dream probably occurred in 551 BC. (Life App SB/NIV SB) 550 BC. (Blueprint – Arthur) 8:2 – Susa is where Esther lived prior to moving to the Persian king’s palace. 8:3 – Two horns of ram are the kings of Media and Persia (8:20). The higher horn represented the growing dominance of Persia within the empire. (Life App SB/NIV SB) 8:5 – crossing the whole earth without touching the ground – what doesn’t touch the ground? Ideas, teachings, language, philosop
