June CSFF Tour: Vanish by Tom Pawlik

Here is my review of this great book:

First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Tom Pawlik and his publisher for sending me a copy of "Vanish" to review for them. I have always been grateful for this generosity, but haven’t been very consistent in taking the time to thank them in a public forum. I really appreciate your time, effort and expense in making a reviewer copy available to me.

Tom Pawlik’s “Vanish” is an outstanding read! This incredibly suspenseful novel begins by following the lives of three very different people as they struggle through life without Christ. When the massive storm cloud rolls in, knocking out power and knocking these individuals unconscious, the reader knows that a dramatic (and traumatic) event is occurring in the story. Sightings of human-looking creatures without faces provides evidence of this, as does the fact that these people cannot find their loved ones.

This amazing story is written like the best suspense novels I’ve ever cracked the cover on. Tom Pawlik’s style reminds me of Stephen King. He weaves the stories within this multi-dimensional plot with precision, making the writing craft look effortless. This is a book that I will leave in my lunchroom at work so that others who wouldn’t normally pick up a Christian book will be exposed to Christ. I can’t wait to read Tom’s next book “Valley of the Shadow”.

Stacy, I'm not sure I'd call this a "rapture story," not the way this one ends. You might want to go back and do a closer read.

Thanks, Becky. I meant to edit that prior to posting.

I'm one of those rare folks in the world who have never read Stephen King. Never, never, ever. However, I like a good suspense tale, and Vanish certainly fits the bill.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
