One in a Million by Priscilla Shirer – Session 3

Discussion was short this week because of an extra long video to watch.  Still, the discussion was powerful as we talked about our “$500 stories” – those are the testimonies you share with others to encourage their perseverance.  They’re the stories we need to remind ourselves of when times get tough!  Keep a journal of these stories for those dark moments that you need to be reminded that God is alive and active in your life!

The Session 3 Video was packed with great encouragement even though wilderness journeys are inevitable.  Priscilla called us to obey Moses’ teaching to Be fearless, stand firm, watch and be silent.  My viewer guide has so many notes scribbled all over them.  Here is a sampling of what I wrote:

Still, my favorite part of the video teaching was the prayer at the end of the session.

Our personal study time led us to consider miracles.  How do you define a “miracle”?  Is it deliverance?  Is it provision?  How are you being refreshed on your wilderness journey?  There are oases on the path to the promised land, even if you’re taking another lap around the wilderness.

Have you embraced the fact that God’s best for us is best, regardless of whether it is what we would have chosen as best for us?  Do you tend to complain or cry out to God when things don’t go your way?  Do you take the time to apply the lessons God is teaching you to your life?  What sort of things draw your focus: the negative or the positive (Philippians 4:4-8)?

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
