1
1-2
During Amraphel’s reign in Shinar, Arioch (Ellasar), Chedorlaomer (Elam) and Tidal (Goiim) made war with Bera (Sodom), Birsha (Gomorrah), Shinab (Admah), Shemeber (Zeboiim) and the king of Bela.
2
3-4
Bera, Birsha, Shinab, Shemeber and the king of Bela, servants of Chedorlaomer 12 years, came to Siddim (Salt Sea) as allies, rebelling against Chedorlaomer in the 13th year.
3
5-7
In the 14th year, Chedorlaomer and the kings with him defeated the Rephaim, Zuzim, Emim, Horites, Amalekites and Amorites.
4
8-9
Kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Bela came out to valley of Siddim to battle Chedorlaomer, Tidal, Amraphel and Arioch – 4 against 5.
5
10-12
Kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell into tarpits while survivors took goods, food, Lot and his possessions and fled to hill country.

Divisions:

1
1-9
Chedorlaomer in his allies, Tidal, Amraphel and Arioch battle Bera, Birsha, Shinab, Shemeber and the king of Bela after defeating the Rephaim, Zuzim, Emim, Horites, Amalekites and Amorites.
Principle:
Choose your allies based on God’s will.
Choose your battles based on God’s will.
2
10-16
Lot was taken when the Kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and Abram recovered him after defeating Chedorlaomer with 318 trained men and three allies (Aner, Eschol, Mamre).
Principle:
If you go into battle with the Lord, it doesn’t matter how many men are on your side or how many allies you have.
3
17-24
Melchizedek meets Abram with bread and wine and a blessing while the King of Sodom asks for the people and wants to share the goods with Abram who refuses but gives a tenth to Melchizedek.
Principle:
Celebrate with and support other believers.
Avoid taking aid from the ungodly.

Subject Sentence:

Abram battles kings, saves Lot, communes with and tithes to Melchizedek.

Aim (Christian and Non-Christian):

TCMAT see the importance of picking their battles based on God’s will, understanding the importance of who you celebrate communion with and from who you accept aid.

Application:

1
What allies has the Lord brought into your life?
What battles has the Lord led you to fight?
How has the Lord made you victorious in battle?
2
What has been the most miraculous victory that you’ve ever experienced and how was God’s involvement apparent?
3
With whom do you celebrate?
Who do you support?
With whom would avoid associating or accepting help?

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
