Praying With the Grain: How Your Personality Affects the Way You Pray by Dr. Pablo Martinez

Here is my review of this amazing book on prayer:

First of all, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Dr. Pablo Martinez and his publisher for sending me a copy of "Praying With the Grain: How Your Personality Affects the Way You Pray" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.

Dr. Pablo Martinez has penned a valuable evaluation tool titled “Praying With The Grain: How Your Personality Affects The Way You Pray”. Out of curiosity, after reading a chapter or two, I was intrigued enough to go online and search out free Personality Type and Temperament quizzes, which I took and evaluated so that I could better “plug myself into” what the author was presenting.

I would have enjoyed this book more thoroughly if it contained evaluation tools to discover your own personality. That component may have made it a somewhat less dry read. Still, after seeking out the tools myself and discovering my type and temperament, I was more intrigued by the analysis presented by the author. But one thing I did discover is that, regardless of our type, temperament and tendency, God can do ANYTHING – including change up our prayer lives.

When I first opened the pages of this book, I would have leaned toward the idea that we use results of quizzes about ourselves as crutches and excuses for poor behavior. But after putting forth a bit of effort and engaging God in prayer and watching Him work, I can say that I am glad I became aware of my tendencies so that I could work with the Lord to address the traits that needed changing.

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
