“Jilted” by Varina Denman

First, I would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to Varina Denman and her publisher for sending me a copy of "Jilted" to review for them. I am truly grateful for this generosity. I really appreciate the time, effort and expense it takes to make a reviewer copy available to me.
The third novel in the Mended Heart series, “Jilted” by Varina Denman is a thinking woman’s Christian romance novel.  This is an honest look at the life, struggles and personality of a woman who was abandoned many years ago.  Denman beautifully crafts her characters including the town of Trapp, Texas with depth and great care.  She deals with issue like depression with great sensitivity and knowledge gained from either painstaking research or experience.  This novel was so real, it took concerted effort to remember that it is a work of fiction.  And I love the thick thread of spirituality that is woven through the novel.

Lynda Turner isn’t looking for love.   After being abandoned, she has a hard time trusting.  But the most unlikely of men turns out to be the balm that her still-wounded heart needs to heal.

My take-away is that God uses the most unlikely people and circumstances (even the most painful parts of our lives) to mold us and bless us and help us to be a blessing to others.  Thank you, Ms. Denman, for telling such a beautiful story.

Stacey,

Because you reviewed Jilted last year, I thought you might like to review my latest release as well. Looking Glass Lies, inspirational women's fiction, releases May 2 from Waterfall Press, and the NetGalley link will be available any day now.

Here's a blurb about Looking Glass Lies:

For most of her adult life, Cecily Ross has compared herself to other women--and come up short. After a painful divorce from her emotionally abusive husband, Cecily returns to her hometown of Canyon, Texas, looking to heal.

But coming home isn't what she expects. In a town as small as Canyon, her pain is difficult to escape--especially with her model-perfect ex-sister-in-law working at the town's popular coffee-shop hangout. With help from her father, a support group, and an old friend who guides her to see her own strengths, Cecily may have a shot at overcoming her insecurities and learning to love again.

The true test comes when tragedy strikes, opening Cecily's eyes to the harmfulness of her distorted views on beauty--and giving her the perfect opportunity to find peace at last.

A poignant and relatable novel, Looking Glass Lies captures the war women wage against themselves, and the struggle to see beauty reflected in a mirror not distorted by society's unrelenting expectations.

Thanks for considering!
Varina

Homiletics Training: Content

Homiletics .   By definition, “homiletic” is the art of preaching or writing sermons.   I think we would all agree that our pastors study the Bible thoroughly to deliver sermons every Sunday to their congregations.   The beautiful news is that every child of God can use this discipline to study the Bible for themselves. As a member of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Leadership, part of my required preparation each week is to prepare homiletics for the passage we are studying.   BSF offers an engaging seminar on how to use this method to study the Scriptures.   I’ve taken the seminar several times under two different leaders and I’ve learned something new every time I’ve attended.   I’ve also been doing the process of homiletics for over ten years and I can say that there is no better teacher than the Holy Spirit in this process!   So keep practicing.   Keep sharing and discussing.   I’ve been posting my homiletics on this blog for quite a while, now.   And I would like to share wit
