What I learned from
the homework – This week was pivotal for me. I am not the person I perceived myself to
be. I have lots to work on in this
area. I don’t like confrontation, so
when honesty will cause a disagreement, I have sinned by avoidance.
Proverbs 29:12 says that one of the consequences of
dishonesty in leadership is that the leader’s officials become wicked. I felt like that corrupted official this
week. I have served under a few leaders
who have been closed-minded at times.
Rather than confronting the areas where we have a difference of opinion,
I’ve kept silent and done things my own way (and encouraged others to do the
same). Not only is this behavior
disrespectful to the leadership God has placed over me, it doesn’t give my
leader the opportunity to change his or her behavior. I need to pray for courage to live honorably
in this area.
What I learned from
our class discussion – We must be honest in EVERY LITTLE THING! There is no such thing as a “white lie”.
Memorizing Scripture
– Leviticus 19:11 teaches us that lying is serious business. In this verse, both stealing and lying are
deterred. Since stealing is a serious
crime and this verse associates these two detrimental practices, I think we
should work hard to avoid lying.
